Sourdough Pizza Dough

This recipe combines two trendy ingredients (sourdough and pizza dough) to make an unusual recipe for dinner. It provides enough moisture and nutrients to sweeten your life, while also going cool with a rich, chocolatey sauce.

Ingredients

:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh oregano
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream

Oil

  • 1 can (10 oz.) whole tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese, such as Parmesan, Feta, or Romano

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Place salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and ginger in a large bowl and whisk with a fork until dissolved. Whisk eggs, sour cream, and tomato, then add to flour mixture and whisk until blended. The dough should come together and form a ball. Knead for a few minutes until dough feels smooth. Set dough aside and cover with plastic wrap to keep it warm.
    1. Heat a 9-inch pizza pan over medium-high heat. Dust pizza pan with a few tablespoons of flour and then add reserved dough and toss to coat all surfaces. Add remaining flour and toss to coat. Pour warm oil in the pan and place the pizza pan on a large baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until crispy and golden brown on both sides. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
    1. Using an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat cheese and salt on high speed until smooth and creamy. Transfer sauce mixture to a serving bowl and spread over pizza crust. Top with warm sourdough mixture and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Return to the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until cheese is melted and pizza crust is golden brown. Slice pizza as desired and serve warm.
